Welcome to your new English lesson! Today, we learn about healthy habits. Having good habits helps you feel strong and happy. This lesson will teach you important ESL vocabulary to talk about a better lifestyle. We will use simple sentences, perfect for any beginner English student looking to improve their English conversation skills and learn English easily.
MODE 1: The Foundation (To Be)
In this mode, we use ‘to be’ verbs: am, are, is, was, were, will be. We describe how things are or were. Remember, NO action verbs here.

Past State
- I was healthy yesterday.
- My body was strong.
- The food was good.
Present State
- I am healthy now.
- My parents are happy.
- Eating vegetables is important.

MODE 2: The Flow (To Be + -ing)
Now we add continuous actions using ‘to be’ and verbs ending in -ing. We show actions happening over time.
Past Continuous

Present Continuous
- I am exercising now.
- We are trying new fruits.
- He is sleeping well tonight.
Future Continuous

MODE 3: The Perspective (Simple Tenses)
Here, we use simple tenses to talk about regular actions. We show declarations, affirmations, negations, and questions.
Simple Present Tense
- Declaration: I eat fruit every day.
- Affirmation: I DO eat fruit every day.
- Negation: I do NOT eat unhealthy snacks.
- Interrogation: Do you exercise?
Simple Past Tense
- Declaration: She drank water yesterday.
- Affirmation: She DID drink water yesterday.
- Negation: She did NOT drink soda.
- Interrogation: Did he sleep well?

MODE 4: The Completion (Perfect Tenses)
Perfect tenses show actions that are completed before another time or are connected to the present. We use have/has/had/will have + past participle.
Present Perfect
- I have eaten healthy food often.
- She has exercised three times this week.
- We have learned about many good habits.
Past Perfect
- Before today, I had always eaten unhealthy snacks.
- He had started running before his friend joined him.
- They had tried many diets before finding good habits.
Future Perfect
- By next month, I will have exercised every day.
- By summer, they will have learned many new healthy habits.
- By then, she will have improved her lifestyle a lot.
MODE 5: The Strategy (Modals & WH-Questions for Healthy Habits)
This mode helps you give advice, talk about possibilities, and ask for information about healthy habits.
Modals

- We must sleep well to feel good. (Necessity)
- He might try jogging in the morning. (Possibility)
